SERIES LANDROVERS:
Because the Series 1, 2 and 3 are essentially the heart of Land Rover, we felt they deserved their own page.
Series 1
Apr 1948 - First pilot production models displayed by Rover at Amsterdam motor show 30th April. Launch price £450. First vehicles delivered. First few vehicles only available in dark green.
1954 - 80" model replaced by 86" model, and a new 107" model added to the range.
1956 - 86" model replaced by 88" model, 107" model replaced by 109" model.
1957 - Diesel version available.
1958 - Last of over 211,000 Series I's produced (about 70% exported from the UK).
Series 2
Apr 1958 - First launched (88" & 109").
Sep 1961 - Series IIA introduced.
Sep 1962 - 109in Forward Control introduced.
Oct 1966 - SIIA Lightweight (Half-Ton) prototype exhibited. Last 109in Forward Control produced.
Apr 1967 - Series IIB 110in Forward Control in production.
Jul 1971 - Last of the Series IIA, over 343,000 normal control vehicles produced since 1961.
1972 - Last 110in FC's produced. Total production 2304.

Series 3
1971 - First launched (88" & 109"), with synchromesh gearbox, plastic dashboard, improved heater arrangement, new brake drums, and a diaphragm clutch.
1976 - Land-Rover produced their 1,000,000th vehicle in June of that year.
1979 - V8 option introduced for the 109", called the Stage 1.
1984 - Last Series 3 produced.
