Report by P Williams.
This “Season’s” Christmas Party, like so many, echoed down the years for me. I recall my baby sons being handed around by honorary aunties. Those little “lads” are in their 50s now.
For this year Jo made initial enquiries with Wellington District Office of BDCA, about the prospect of securing a “block” booking for our members wishing to attend. This enquiry produced the most pleasant response from the Parks and Services Manager, Nick Evans.
Nick’s first advice was to “ignore all the officialdom you’ve heard about”. He assured us that the block of sites we desired would be confirmed for the club, and we just needed to send a summary of our attendees, after the event, for them to produce an invoice for the club to pay.
Once our Saturday date was confirmed, members could sign-in with Jo, who provided them with a site number. Those members wishing to stay more nights, other than the Saturday which the club paid for, could then go on-line, to book and pay for the additional nights. This system worked perfectly for everyone.

In the final wash-up our attendance list entailed 19 Seniors, 7 Adults and 7 Children. And what a jolly group of Grandies, Mums and Dads and just convivial Members happily celebrating the approaching Christmas Season, whose company we enjoyed.
Being a short distance from home for us, we quite expected to be the first to arrive, but Garry beat us by 24 hours, he was set up with his new caravan and looked very comfortable indeed.
As the weekend unfolded , our members rolled in at their appointed times, and camps popped up. With the water of the Wellington Dam catchment at our door step, lots of canoeing and general frolicking in the water ensued.
When the “official” club party day got under way, on Saturday, Jo had a nice list of kids activities carefully planned. But, on such a sunny day, at the waters edge, the kids (and big kids) were having such a great time, it would have been a shame to interrupt all that joy to enforce some “organised” fun.
As the afternoon wore on people began congregating at the BBQ/Shade centre, and shortly a very busy Santa sent along his “assistant”, in appropriate dress, to distribute gifts to all the happy kids waiting in anticipation.
The afternoon full of happy faces soon evolved into an evening of BBQ and Tipples, lots of good humour before everyone wandered off for a good night’s sleep.
People heading off home began on Sunday morning, but dragged out until Monday before the last stragglers bid farewell and wandered off down the hill, choosing the options of the Southwest Highway or the Forrest Highway, north towards Perth and surrounds.
Happy New Year Everyone.
